Lunatic Records celebrates Black History Month with a tribute to the Notorious B.I.G.(Salt In My Wounds). This year the theme for Black History Month is "Standing Firm in Power and Pride"., a powerful tribute to the resilience, strength, and unwavering commitment to progress by the black diaspora. Although the event began in the US in the 1920s, it was finally celebrated in the UK in 1987 arranged by Akyaaba Addai-Sebo who came to the UK in 1984 from Ghana as a refugee. Like Carter G Woodson(the father of Black History), he wanted to challenge racism and celebrate the history of black people. The contribution of the Windrush Generation is also being celebrated this year, 75 years after the arrival of passengers on HMT Empire Windrush to the UK. Greater attention has recently been paid to the importance of the Windrush generation and the Black Lives Matter movement. So take sometime out and explore the society, heritage, achievements and culture of black people. Key black figures from the UK include, Walter Tull, the first black officer to command white troops in the British Army and one of Englands first black players. Malorie Blackman, bestselling author and the first black Children's Laureate. Shirley J Thompson, leading composer and conductor. Lewis Hamilton, the only black driver in Formula One. Celebrate and remember.

Get that Funk feeling and dance your cares away.
